A once-in-a-lifetime event like the Total Solar Eclipse is almost guaranteed
to bring some safety and communication concerns with it.
Here are some helpful hints to consider when making your Total Solar Eclipse travel plans:
Stay Informed- Tune into KMMO 102.9FM, the Eclipse radio station for our area. They will be live-broadcasting the day of the eclipse, keeping you up to date on area eclipse happenings. Consider bringing a portable radio, and don't forget batteries! Cell phone and internet coverage may be spotty.
Keep your gas tank FULL- Don't waste time filling your tank up! Avoid lines and fill your gas tank before the eclipse!
Park in a safe place- For everyone's safety, park your car at a preferred viewing site location or designated parking spot. Leave the roads and adjacent roadsides open for travel and maximum sight distance. Allow yourself ample time to arrive and get settled at your parking site.
Expect the unexpected- Take plenty of food, water, medicines, phone chargers, maps, car games for the kids or anything else you might need if you are caught in heavy traffic.
Cell phone coverage- We hope our cell coverage will be adequate in the Marshall area, but with the anticipated heavy volume, there may be interruptions. Please do not depend on your cell phone.
Please be patient- There may be delays while driving. Other motorists and pedestrians may be distracted, so please watch the road while driving, and make way for emergency vehicles.
